FINISHING

The final step in the garage building process is finishing. This involves many aspects, including the running of electricity, plumbing (if necessary), ventilation, insulation, interior wall installation, painting, door and window installation, roofing, and exterior and floor finishes.

First a layout is planned, with electrical outlets, switches, lighting, and any ventilation and plumbing fixtures marked. Then wiring, plumbing, and any other specialized electrical needs are roughed-in. Switch, fixture, and outlet boxes are mounted with wires and left for wall finishing to be completed. Ventilation systems (vents and exhaust fans) can also be added to improve the air circulation of your garage, which is excellent for workshops. The overhead garage door tracks and mechanisms can be installed as well during this point. Installation of switches, outlets, fixtures, fans, and cover plates will be done after interior wall finishing is complete.

Insulation is then installed to help regulate the temperature inside. Foam board or fiberglass batt insulation are typically used, followed by a vapor barrier (for insulation) and the interior wall and ceiling covering of your choice. Drywall is most commonly used on the walls and ceiling of the garage. The drywall is attached and the seams are taped and mudded with joint compound, covering all open gaps. It's then sanded smooth and priming/painting can be done. A primer is applied, followed by your desired color of paint (usually with a high mold and mildew resistance). Baseboards and trim can be installed afterwards. Waterproof baseboards are recommended with silicone sealant along the base to keep moisture from leaching into the walls.

Roof finishing, window and door installation, and the overhead doors are next. We have many options of finishing materials, windows, and doors to choose from. The roofing options include metal, which has become a popular choice, as well as clay tiles and asphalt shingles. Next, we place the windows and doors into position in their specified, framed opening and seal them to ensure they are weatherproof and energy-efficient. The exterior wall finishing can now be done. We have multiple exterior options to choose from as well; wood to vinyl to metal, and can match the exterior to your house or create a whole new look. Starting from the bottom, we attach each piece making sure it is level, secure, and sealed. Trim is then placed around the windows and doors.

We can also offer solutions to your storage needs. Shelves, cabinets, pegboards, and other specialized storage compartments can be incorporated to your specifications.

Lastly, sealing the floor is recommended to protect from moisture damage and increase durability. Polished concrete, vinyl/rubber tiles, and epoxy are some of the many options.
